Source and elimination method of irritating odor during UV printing

In recent years, with the concept of green environmental protection gradually becoming popular, the printing industry is also facing increasing environmental pressure. How to seek a more environmentally friendly printing method has become the common aspiration of printing companies. UV printing Because of the use of VOC-free UV inks, UV printing is more environmentally friendly than conventional solvent-based gravure, screen printing and aromatic-based offset printing. However, irritating odors are also produced during UV printing, and how to eliminate these pungent odors has plagued printing owners.

So let's explore the main sources and elimination methods of irritating odors in UV printing, which have been used by other companies for reference.

1: Substrate of different materials will be cracked out of the relevant chemical substances to produce irritating odors when the environment is affected. Elimination method: When selecting the substrate, the printing enterprise should pay attention to whether the adhesive used in the compounding machine contains the machine. Solvents, as well as the firmness of the surface coating; for plastic materials, try to choose some quality-guaranteed manufacturers, using "new materials" to prepare reliable materials. In addition, the surface temperature of the substrate should be minimized to reduce the heat accumulation inside the printed product.

2: The curing device works during UV printing to produce ozone with a pungent odor. Elimination method: For the problem of ozone generated by short-wave ultraviolet light, printing enterprises can reduce the accumulation of ozone by modifying the suction and exhaust mode of the equipment or the ventilation facilities of the workshop. Foreign lamp manufacturers have developed UV lamps that do not produce ozone, and have been put into practical production applications. New products can be used as soon as possible to solve the ozone problem of irritating odors.

3: The UV ink itself contains a certain odor and may cause a pungent odor after curing. Elimination method: At present, most of the domestic UV inks use 907 initiator, and the chemical name is 2-methyl-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2-morpholine-1-propanone. Such initiators are moderately priced, triggering high efficiencies, but cracking upon curing produces an unpleasant "methylthio group." In order to reduce the odour caused by the initiator, ink manufacturers should avoid using these initiators and try to use high-grade initiators that do not produce irritating odors.

4: UV cleaning agents, additives and other auxiliary materials may also have a pungent odor. Elimination method: The most convenient solution is to use UV cleaner to clean the equipment and wait for a while before printing.
