European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers publis

The Federation of European Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) has published Guidelines on the Recyclability of Corrugated Packaging.

To promote packaging sustainability, the guide provides industry with a practical set of options for recycling paper and cardboard to ensure optimal use of natural resources and minimise environmental impact.

A circular economy requires recycling, keeping materials in circulation, and minimizing waste of resources. Paper and cardboard is a sustainable, recyclable and environmentally friendly packaging. In the practice of recycling, the packaged products are collected, classified, and finally reprocessed. Paper and cardboard recycling in the EU is a success story, with over 83% of paper and cardboard being recycled efficiently. Corrugated packaging is new packaging using recycled paper, with an average recycling rate of 89%. Eleni Desporto, Director General of FEFCO, said: "The corrugated board industry provides environmentally friendly packaging products for sustainable development and supports the EU Green Deal targets. Recycling raw materials can help achieve this goal. "Corrugated Packaging Recyclability" The Guidelines provide industry with an outline for achieving the SDGs.”

Headquartered in Brussels, FEFCO represents the interests of European corrugated board manufacturers. FEFCO has 17 association members, all of which are European national corrugated packaging organizations. The role of the Federation is to investigate economic, financial, technical and policy issues of interest to the corrugated packaging industry, analyze all factors that may affect the industry, and promote and develop its reputation.
