China's PVDF hollow fiber membranes are introduced with exce

With the rapid development of the plastics industry, there are a lot of good news in the plastics industry. Not long ago, the functional membrane team of Polymer Division, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, prepared a double-layer polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane with an outer layer enriched with antibacterial silver ions through double-layer co-extrusion technology.

According to the report, the team had already prepared PVDF membrane with bicontinuous structure and hollow fiber membrane with good antibacterial performance by non-solvent induced assisted thermotropic phase separation method. The researchers further enriched the silver-loaded molecular sieve in the outer layer of the bilayer membrane by double-layer co-extrusion, and prepared PVDF hollow fiber membrane with antimicrobial performance by dry spraying and wet spinning. The antimicrobial content of this bilayer membrane is only 54% of that of the single-layer membrane, but it exhibits nearly or even better antimicrobial performance and anti-bacterial adhesion performance without any degradation in water flux and other properties.

As a membrane material with excellent performance, PVDF is widely used in the field of separation membranes. Microfiltration and ultrafiltration hollow fiber membranes made from it have been produced on a large scale for industrial use in household water purification systems, wastewater treatment, and seawater desalination. However, in addition to organic and inorganic substances, microorganisms are also one of the main factors causing membrane contamination. For membrane contamination caused by bacteria and other microorganisms, it is particularly important to prepare membranes with antibacterial properties.
